general science degree in Ireland

Science Degree Courses for Science Careers

Choosing your science degree is important because that will decide which career path you will go to. There are two options for science degree courses and students must decide if they want to learn broad subjects (physics, chemistry, biology) or specialist subject. If you have chosen the career that you want, it’s best to enroll in degrees that would lead you down that career’s route.

It’s essential for you to decide which career you want and this article might help. For example, if you are aiming to be a medical scientist, then a degree in that specific career is the best for you. If you want a broader career, then a degree in general science is your best option.

It’s okay if you don’t have a specific career in mind, taking a broader degree course is the best way for you to find out. From there, you can decide which path to take.

Some science careers require you to have a postgraduate certification so you must decide if you need or want a master’s or Ph.D. Who knows? Perhaps you’ll be enrolling in courses that lead you to where you want – perhaps a general science degree in Ireland or biomedical science in Malaysia.

Where can science degrees take you?

There’s a variety of careers that will be open for you.

A chemistry or chemistry-related degree would be able to lead you to careers in industries such as pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, manufacturing, and healthcare. With that in mind, careers you can go for include analytical scientist, chemist, forensic scientist, pharmacologist, medical scientist, and toxicologist.

Moreover, biology or any biology-related degree would lead you to environmental-related careers. For example, agriculture, biomedicine, food and beverages, and marine biology. Careers that you can venture into are biologist, biochemist, zoologist, geneticist, biotechnologist, microbiologist, and marine biologist.

Apart from that, physics or physics-related degree courses would be able to lead you to a vast area of sectors. Therefore, you can venture into aerospace and defense, automotive, healthcare, computing, and telecommunications. Careers that you can venture to include physicist, nanotechnologist, astrophysicist, meteorologist, medical physicist, and geophysicist.

If you don’t want any specific careers then science degrees are able to open up many routes for you. Other careers that you can venture into are science journalist, technical sales, or even teaching. However, these other careers do need other qualifications such as an education background if you want to go into teaching or an English degree if you’d like to be a writer.
